Langkawi, Cameron Highlands or Kuantan — which trip is right for you?
Five very different trips, one honest question each: who is it for? Here is how we steer people when they ask us, with the real duration and starting price of each.
Langkawi — the island for families and first-timers
Five days, four nights. Villas and suites, speedboat island hopping, the famous cable car and SkyBridge, beaches, and a mix of indoor and outdoor activities so a rainy afternoon is never wasted. Flights and ferry included. The most complete trip we run, and the one that suits the widest range of people — families with children, grandparents, couples. Best March to October; fine most of the year.
Cameron Highlands — cool air, tea and strawberries
Three days, two nights. Tea plantations, strawberry farms, the flower park, a sheep farm the children will not want to leave, and 18–22 °C air that feels like another country. An open trip with limited seats — good for solo travellers and small groups who want company without organising anything. Pack a jacket.
Kuantan — the east coast, cheaply and well
Three days, two nights from RM 600 — our lowest-priced trip. Beaches, waterfalls, the Kuantan Tower, street art, and a menu of activities from snorkelling and diving to hiking and craft workshops, all with a professional guide. The best value on this list if you are travelling from Kuala Lumpur and want the sea without the flight. Go March to October; the monsoon closes the coast in winter.
Luxury glamping — for couples
Two days, one night in premium tents and geodesic domes at your choice of highland or nature site — Genting, Janda Baik, Cameron Highlands, Kuantan or Bentong. Comfortable beds, private bathrooms, a fire in the evening. Built for anniversaries and honeymoons; also works for a group of friends who want to switch their phones off.
Kuala Lipis scenic train — for slow travellers
Three days, two nights riding the jungle railway through Pahang’s rainforest, then exploring the heritage town of Kuala Lipis. Unhurried, photogenic, and unlike anything else in Malaysia. For people who have done the islands and want a story to tell.
